These are a great bar dessert treat to make, and use the same ingredients as a chocolate chip cookie! You can use a smaller pan to make them a bit thicker, which results in a chewier bar, versus the crispier thin bar. The nuts are also optional; I prefer mine without. Next time I make these, I’m going to try them with some sea salt sprinkled on top!

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Butter
- 1 Cup Brown Sugar
- 2 teaspoons Vanilla
- 1 Egg Yolk
- 2 Cups Flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1 12 Ounce Bag Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 1 Cup Chopped Walnuts (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350F
- Cream butter and brown sugar, then add egg yolk and vanilla; Mixture should be light and white
- Add flour and salt; mix thoroughly
- Press mixture into 10×15 pan (can be smaller for a thicker, chewier bar)
- Bake 15 minutes, or until lightly browned
- Remove from oven and use a fork to press down the baked dough
- Bake again 5-8 minutes
- Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips across the dough
- Put back in oven and let chips melt; approximately 3-5 minutes (chips will look shiny)
- Remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over the dough
- Sprinkle chopped nuts on top
- Let stand about 5 minutes then score into bars while still warm
- Chill to harden chocolate
