Who doesn’t love Sloppy Joe’s? Squatch, that’s who. Manwich is a nope, even the chunky version, which I prefer. These homemade Joe’s are similar to the chunky Manwich.
Ingredients
- 1 Pound Ground Beef
- 1 Large Onion, Minced
- 2 Tablespoons Sugar
- 1 Green Pepper, Minced
- 2 Tablespoons Mustard (French’s or similar)
- 1 Tablespoon Vinegar
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 3/4 Cup Ketchup
- Brown the ground beef, and remove the grease
- Add all other ingredients, stirring well to thoroughly mix
- Cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes
- Serve on buns with potato chips on the side
This will give you a good amount of Joe’s, or Disorderly Joeseph’s, as I like to call them. I do find this recipe to be a bit heavy on the mustard, so I tend to add a few extra squirts of ketchup when making just for myself. If you are doubling the recipe, just the one pepper will do, and you can get away with 3 Tablespoons of Mustard instead of 4. Growing up, we had Sloppy Joe’s once or twice a month, and always served them with ruffled or ridged chips. I still love them, and eat them the same way – top of the bun on the bottom, to keep the Joes from soaking through the thin bottom bun, cut into quarters. Soooo good!!!
