BATTLEFIELD BIRCHWOOD by Peter Robertucci Jr.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It was great to get back into the world of Dalton once again.
Robertucci picks up right where he left off in “Birchwood Burning,” with the annual Bluegill Festival descending into chaos.
I will say that the whole Mookie storyline is just annoying. He’s all the way down near Milwaukee commanding his “troops” up in the Northwoods, and now we find that he’s got the approval of the governor and other various bureaucrats. I understand that he and his cadre of ne’er-do-wells are the bad guys, but I wish it were written just a tad differently.
Living in this neck of the woods, I understand the small-town mentality and how folks will come together in a crisis. It was great to see that portion of the book happening. I do feel that the book’s pacing seems to hurry up and then slow down a bit too much, and it can be difficult to truly understand just how much time has passed.
BUT I’m really looking forward to the next chapter in this series!
