The Rose Arbor by Rhys Bowen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

1940s England – 3 little girls go missing during the evacuations from London.
20 years later – A little girl goes missing; is her disappearance tied to the earlier ones?
Wow…This book had me hooked right away. The main character is a journalist, and her best friend and roommate work with the Met (London police). They both start their own investigations into the current disappearance, and the twists and turns they both take are like a roller coaster.
The main character’s history comes to tie into the missing girls story, and its conclusion is NOT what I expected it to be (SPOILER ALERT: She is NOT one of the missing girls). The way Bowen shared glimpses into her backstory really made me wonder and start doing my own deep dive into the story, trying to piece it all together.
Yes, there are some “What a coincidence you came across this information/person/place?!” sections of the book, but the reality of everything, the human-ness of the characters, kept me going.
