Episode 45 | It's ALWAYS the Most Important Election of Our Lives – Thoughts From The Loo
It was the most important election of our lives.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I truly paid zero attention to this election cycle. I knew that Tony Evers was running for re-election for governor; let’s just say that I’m not a fan as he vetoed several bills promoting medical freedom this past legislative session. And, we had a U.S. Senate race that was quite heated; according to YouTube, which kept interrupting my videos with back to back ads for Ron Johnson and then Mandela Barnes. Periodically I would get Minnesota political ads, which made me laugh, because we are about 45 minutes east of the St. Croix River, separating St. Croix Falls, WI from Taylors Falls, MN.
I don’t think that I’ve come out and said it here at Liberty All Day, but I don’t vote; at least, not in the federal and larger state races. I have not voted since 2020. I voted in the primary, and attempted to vote in the Presidential election, but I had issues with my absentee ballot – it was sent to the wrong address, and then they claimed to have never received it, along with various other issues. My faith in the electoral system had long been questionable, but 2020 sealed the deal for me. The whole “Vote harder next time so your candidate wins” never truly appealed to me, but I had been bought into the whole “voting is your civic duty” and “you cannot complain if you don’t vote” for years. Now, I will only go to the polls if there is something on the ballot that will directly affect me personally. (Here’s a hint, there really isn’t much that will affect me personally)
It seems crazy, doesn’t it? That I don’t vote? And I’ve got another secret – I truly have zero interest in anything that is happening politically. Now, I did go online this morning and check to see the results for Wisconsin, because I have a very strong interest in medical freedom; something Governor Evers does not hold in high regard, nor does Mandela Barnes. Unfortunately, Wisconsin will have four more years of Governor Evers; I still need to see if there is a majority to over-rule Evers vetoes going forward, but that is neither here nor there. Senator Johnson won his bid for re-election, which is great to hear, because he is another who is pro-medical freedom.
I am quite concerned about everything going forward, to be honest. My pal Ken Eash, from The Constructive Liberty Podcast, put out a great podcast this morning. Yesterday, he asked over on MeWe “It was the best of times…..it was the worst of times. How are you feeling about this point in history in which we’re currently living?” There were a handful of us who responded to the question, and the answers ran the gamut from “This is the worst possible time to be living; there is no hope for the future” to “Yeah, it sucks, but we’re still alive, and WE are the ones who can make the difference by being positive and proactive about our lives.” Now, this topic is something Squatch and I have been discussing for a while. 2016 changed the entire election game (because, that’s what it really is, you guys. It’s all a game, dog & pony show, ass-clown circus (to quote Jack Spirko)). 2020 truly ushered in the era of questioning election results, and “election deniers.” Leading up to this mid-term election, there was so much fear-mongering on both sides, preparing us to either question or deny the results. The concern Squatch and I have, is how will people trust the process, and our current form of government?
I have not paid any attention to any election coverage other than what I detailed above for you, but Squatch did mention this morning that there were reports of issues at various localities with the voting machines, election officials not allowing voters to cast their votes, etc. How can we as a country go forward with elections if this is what is currently happening? It seems that each successive election, things get worse and worse, and we fall deeper down the rabbit hole of not trusting anyone, and claiming that “the other side” is full of extremists and terrorists.
So…where do we go from here? I know for us, we are just continuing on with our lives. We did an Aldi run yesterday, and are good to go for shopping for at least the next month. Yes, chicken eggs did go up 32 cents since last week, but they are from the Mennonites down the road, and their price has not changed since at least April, when we started buying eggs from them. But we just add that 32 cents into our weekly egg budget, and will find a way to save elsewhere. We made sure both vehicles are full of gas. And…we are moving along with our plans to make improvements to the house.
I’m sure some of you are reading this thinking “Where did all of this come from, Lettie?” Well…When I started this blog, I did so with the idea that it would be my views and opinions as a conservative woman. I haven’t really gone down that path, and now, as I look at the world around me, I realize that I have a voice that needs to be heard. And by hiding it, I’m not being my true self. So, going forward, you will see my updates about what we are doing around the Little Red House to improve it, my new organization goal for our prepper pantry in the basement (and with it, purging everything that is not needed), and commentary like this, explaining my views on just what is happening in the world around us.
It’s tough out there, I know, but all I can say is, stay true to your path.
