Getting Shit Done

Getting Shit Done

This past week has been a GSD week. We got A LOT of shit done around the house. And no, this isn’t nesting before Bug is evicted. This is us cranking away at our list of house projects.

Last week we started out with doctors appointments. Squatch and I went to the hospital early Monday morning for a growth ultrasound to check on Bug’s progress. Kid is still growing well, and I think he or she will be larger than Little Man was. Heehee. Tuesday I met with my OB, and we discussed scheduling the C-Section.

I had a bit of a panic attack when she gave me her scheduled OR date…It’s not a good one, historically for me. Two of the most toxic and narcissistic people I know have that date as their birthday, and one is my FIL. I really don’t want Bug to share a birthday with anyone, either, especially when the person is a narcissist, because that is one of the best ways to feed into their narcissism and self-worth. The OB is still working to re-schedule for a different day. She did say that I could go for one date, but that would require us going down to Eau Claire, instead of our local hospital that is right around the corner. Staying close to home is ideal, beacuse then Squatch can come home at night and sleep in our bed here, instead of at the hospital. Plus, it will give Granma a break from being with Little Man all day. She gave us some grief, “I have been coming up with plans for things we can do at our house. I’m going to clean out the basement, and we can play games, watch movies, and have a camp out down there.” Little Man will already be dealing with enough changes…Mama being in hospital for a few days, a new brother or sister coming home, getting used to not being the only kid anymore…Taking him out of his normal environment will not be the solution.

We spent Saturday afternoon at the inlaws’ place. They had FIL’s family over on Friday night, and had invited Little Man and me…but we chose to skip it and not go without Squatch. So, we headed over around noon and had some delicious ribs and pork tips. After we ate, we were sitting on the patio…Little Man, Squatch, and Granma were out in the yard throwing a ball back and forth for a bit. I went to separate two of the stacking chairs, and not one, but 2 frogs jumped out! MIL freaked out, Squatch and I laughed, Little Man wasn’t quite sure what to make of it all, due to the polar opposite reactions of the adults in the area. It looked like a Daddy frog and Baby frog…Daddy jumped onto the air conditioning unit while Baby jumped to the ground and was hanging out next to the garage. They were so dang cute!

We passed on dessert at the inlaws…Squatch and I had decided earlier that we would treat Little Man to Dairy Queen instead. And, we had picked up two films from Redbox while we did our morning shopping. So, we got some Blizzards and a kid sized dipped cone then went home and watched Jurrasic World: Fallen Kingdom (it turns out we had actually watched it shortly after it came out) and then Matrix: Resurrections. OMG…was it a terrible film. I wish I could petition the Wachowski brothers for my $1.99 back. I kept falling asleep while watching it…that never happens. So, if you haven’t seen it…Go ahead and skip it.

Sunday we did yard work. Squatch hung up my clothesline – I picked up a retractable one and we have it set up so I just have to back up the Dreadnaught a bit then bring the cord across the carport. He also threw some seed in the area of the backyard we’re trying to get grass back growing in after we pulled up the landscape fabric and woodchips that had been all over half the dang yard. Squatch then got to use his newest tool: a manual edger! It took a lot of work to do, but the driveway, sidewalk, and front walk are now cleanly edged. The before and after is so awesome. While he was edging, I went to the backyard and watered the new grass seed and my garlic…I have garlic scapes AND two Egyptian Walking Onions have FINALLY popped up! Yippee!!!

Monday morning, we rearranged the living room a bit. We had to move the couch around to be able to fit the Pack n Play in here. Little Man helped me put the Pack n Play together – he thought it was really neat, and is excited to be able to help us get ready for Bug. Neither Squatch nor I are sold on this set-up…it’s really crowded around the window now, but we are going to give it a few more days and then try something else. The big project of the day was moving furniture in the dining area of the kitchen, and then Squatch painted! Little Man got to help with the painting by pulling off the painter’s tape when it was dried. He thought that was the coolest thing ever! We picked out this gorgeous almost sea-foam green from Sherwin Williams. It looks so good next to the darker wood colour of our cabinets, and when we paint the wainscoting, ceiling, and moulding bright white, it will look even better!

The last bit of our kitchen project will be putting up a tin backsplash behind the stove and above the main countertop. There is a fake version up right now, and it is such a pain to clean. My Gramma had a tin backsplash, and it was so simple to wipe down after making something that was greasy and splashed all over. I’m really looking forward to this kitchen makeover…It’s halfway there!

  • The projects for this next week include
    • Me finishing going through all the boxes of baby stuff in the basement
    • Sorting through non-essentials to sell, donate, or give to other mamas-to-be
    • Finish the spare room/office organization (we are SOOOO CLOSE!!!)
    • Order another gallon of green paint and the blue paint for the living room
    • Paint the living room
    • Try another arrangement of the living room with the Pack n Play in it

I did a few fun things this past week: A new video on Odysee and YouTube about prepper pantries, and Sunday night, I got to hang out with Toolman Tim and talk about Death, Dying, and Dignity (it’s available as a podcast, YouTube, and Odysee).

the edging looks fantastic! I am a sucker for a well edged driveway/sidewalk. Is it well made so you think it will hold up? That may be an option for me as I cannot convince my husband to edge when he mows.

I think the edger will hold up. And, if it doesn’t, it shouldn’t be that difficult to replace the wooden handle.
