We’ve been rocking the potty training with Little Man. He made the whole drive back from the lake, 2.5 hours, Monday morning, without having an accident in his undies in the car seat. He’s doing really well – the only accidents we are running into are poop ones. Other than that, he is in the same dry pair of undies all day long! Nighttime, we are still using the overnight pullups, but he has been mostly dry in them overnight. A few times, he has woken up in the middle of the night, saying he has to pee. I am so proud of Little Man!
The weather was gorgeous, so we spent a lot of time outside. His favourite place is to play next to the fence. He brings his trucks over, and he digs and plays. Little Man also likes to adventure under Nanny & Papa’s pine trees out front.
Now, I’ve had a lot of my mind this past week. Squatch and I found a lot of land, and our offer was accepted. 23 April, we will be the proud owners of 3/4 acre of land! It is not everything we want, but it will be ours. Unfortunately, there are restrictions on what we can and cannot do, so we will not have any chickens or goats. But, I have plenty of space to garden!!!
Also, I’ve been thinking a lot about a conversation had with the family last Saturday. My goddaughter was in town with some friends from college for the weekend. We were discussing what is going on in the world, and my mother yells at us “You never discuss politics or religion with family!” I just looked at her, and replied “This is why no one can have a conversation or hear anything that conflicts with their thoughts and beliefs. It is perfectly find to discuss politics and religion, as long as you actually have a conversation, where each person listens and gets an opportunity to speak.” Then I turned back to my cousin and her friends, and we kept talking.
I’ve really had that phrase “You never discuss politics or religion with family” in my head this past week. I’ve also heard it put as “Do not discuss politics and religion in polite company.” And, really, this is the basis of today’s big problems. We cannot have conversations with others anymore – they are often monologues or shouting matches, or one participant will just shut down and leave. It is difficult to come to any type of consensus or solution if you cannot actually have a true discussion.
Now, I don’t know what the solution is, other than encourage your family and friends to share their thoughts and beliefs. Maybe you will have to help and facilitate the dialogue, or mediate to ensure each party is able to participate. I do know that Squatch and I plan on encouraging Little Man to read, and talk to others, and just find out everything he can so he can have open minded conversations.
Little Man and I had some fun in the kitchen this week.
We made some DELICIOUS Chocolate Chunk Cookies on Wednesday. Saturday night, I baked the Lamb Cake, and Little Man helped me make the frosting Sunday morning. And, as Squatch was with us for the weekend, I made him Biscuits and Gravy for breakfast Sunday.
The garden is looking great. I transplanted the Sugar Snap Peas and Ashley Cucumbers on Friday morning. Thy are now in some large cups. I unfortunately didn’t have any skewers or anything to help them trellis on, so for now, I cut the bottom off of two other cups and have them on top to give them some assistance.
I have been putting the plants out each morning to help harden them. They are looking really good so far. It does help that the temps have been in the 60s and 70s this weekend, and the winds have not been too crazy, either.
One of my mother’s daffodil plants has bloomed. I was inspired, and did take some wildflower mixed seeds, which I spread in the back corner of the yard here. I don’t know if they will grow, as I just lightly raked the soil and then tossed the seeds out before watering the area. Maybe we will get something, maybe not. Either way, it’s an experiment.
