That Was Something Else…

This week, I just felt off. I don’t know what it was, but I was not playing my A-Game.

I tried my hand at baking, and it was just not to be. My yeast would not activate for the pretzel rolls I so desperately was craving. I tried two separate packets, and neither one took. It was disappointing, but I soldiered on and kept with it. The kitchen was cooler than I would have liked as well, so I initially attributed the lack of rise to the rolls to the coolness. Then, when I tried a second packet of yeast and it would not rise, I realized it was truly the yeast. Now, I did follow through with that first batch and boil them with the baking soda (OMG. It took FOREVERRRRRRR for it to come to a boil), and then bake them. They weren’t…terrible, but they weren’t delicious. I don’t know. I’m going to have to go back to the drawing board with this recipe, and find some better, more reliable yeast. In all my years of baking, I have NEVER had an issue with these yeast packets. I guess there’s a first time for everything, am I right?

I also decided to start looking for work again. Trust me, the last thing I want to do is work a 9-5 office job, but Squatch is not having luck with his job search, so, since I’m here with my parents, and trust them with Little Man, I figure I may as well see if I can find even a part time position locally. I got a lead on a job that is right up my alley; it is based out of Seattle, but the company is completely remote, so I figure I will give it a shot. I did find a job here in town that I applied for, and after having breakfast with a good friend Sunday morning, got a heads up on a new position within her company. So…I’ve got several applications out there, in addition to a note to my network that I am accepting clients for the business that I started (In need of a Parliamentarian or Virtual Assistant? I can do that! Check out my site at parliproconsulting.wordpress.com).

I did get a baking win on Friday night, when Little Man, Nanny, and I baked and decorated Hallowe’en sugar cookies. Have I mentioned before that I love Hallowe’en? I LOVE HALLOWE’EN!!! Squatch does, too, which makes it even more fun. I went to the basement earlier in the week and brought up the 2 tubs of Hallowe’en decorations, and you should have seen Little Man’s face when he saw what we pulled out of them! Yep, Little Man is into this great holiday as well. I’ve decided that he will be a skeleton this year, so last weekend I picked up black sweat pants & shirt. I need to find some white felt or flannel, which I will cut and then iron onto his clothes, to make the skeleton. We are decorating Nanny & Papa’s lake house with skeletons for the Hallowe’en Tour the weekend before Hallowe’en, so it will be the perfect complement.

I’m hoping that I get out of my funk this next week. I did get one book read this past week, and have a few more to go, so I’m hoping to get another book under my belt and then do some crocheting, so I can FINALLY finish this blanket I started back in February. Have a great week, everyone!
