Side Hustles

Side Hustles

I’ve been thinking about starting a side gig for a while. Last fall, I decided I wanted to become a Registered Parliamentarian, and so I found a reputable course that prepares students to take the exam offered by the National Association of Parliamentarians. Then we moved, and it took Squatch a few months to find a job, and I just felt bad spending the money to take the class. I’ve never stopped thinking about it though, and have been trying to figure out how to make it happen.

Well, enter Nicole Sauce from Living Free in Tennessee. On one of her recent podcasts, she mentioned that she wished she had a Virtual Assistant to help her with her bookkeeping. I thought to myself, “Hey! I can do that!” and the next time I was in front of my computer, checked out UpWork to see what kind of jobs are available in that area. Boy did I stumble onto something! There are plenty of gigs available, some are full-time and long-term and then there are the one-offs or just a few hours here and there each week.

Nicole decided to offer small-group sessions on creating side hustles, and I signed up for one. We had the call this morning, and boy am I ready! I took my Parliamentarian website I created last fall but never actually published, and spent some time this afternoon adding in my VA services. I shared it with one of my small business MeWe groups, and am now waiting for some feedback. I actually already have a job, from this same MeWe group. I mentioned earlier this week that I was thinking of going this route, and a fellow member commented, saying she wishes she had a VA. A few chat messages back and forth later, and I’m about to start transcribing some of her farm journals! It gives her peace of mind, knowing they are getting done, and it gives me something to do, and bring in a little extra money each month while I’m working on this.

Now, what does this have to do with anything I write about? Well, Financial Freedom is key when you are looking for liberty. Not being reliant on a paycheck from a large company, creating your own work and clientele, being able to choose what you do and don’t work on, that is what liberty is all about. Being financially free gives Squatch and I some more leeway when it comes to paying off our debts, and also pads our pockets for fun things we may want to do, especially having Little Man around.

What have you thought about lately that you can do to bring in some extra money? With all of these lockdowns, a lot of people have lost their jobs, or they are greatly reduced in the hours they are working, and many out there are hurting financially. Why not take the initiative and get your side hustle moving right now?!
