Today is Wisconsin’s Spring Elections and Presidential Primary. And, I’m unable to vote, due to being in Illinois. Now, I applied for my absentee ballot early in March, to ensure I would be able to cast a vote today. After a week, and not receiving it, I checked online, and to my surprise, there was no record of my absentee ballot request. So, I submitted it again…two weeks later, still no ballot. I did a search again last week, and it again did not show that I had requested an absentee ballot. At this point, I’m done with trying to get it. Plus, being at the lake, I have my mail set up to forward from here up to NW WI, so it would defeat the purpose to have the ballot sent here.
Wisconsin is really going through with the election today? But other states have postponed theirs! Yeah, Wisconsin did not do that. Early in March, the governor said there was nothing he could to about the election, and that we would carry on; hence my initial absentee ballot request. I cannot remember when, but it was either last week or the week prior that he then said he wished there was something he could do, and requested that the board of elections mail out absentee ballots to all registered voters (yeah…a federal judge ordered that the state review their records and purge about 500,000 voters from the records), that request was denied by the legislature. Yesterday, he then proceeded to sign an executive order banning in-person voting today; the Supreme Court overruled the order, so the election is still going on.
This is such a shit show, it really is. Between being unable to even request an absentee ballot to the back & forth wishy-washy handling of it by the governor, I have absolutely zero faith in how it turns out.
