I May be Crazy

I May be Crazy

I’ve been working with Little Man, preparing him for potty training, for a while now. Back in January, we had a successful trip to the potty, but none since. Being stuck at home thanks to social distancing, I decided to start potty training…this morning.

I got out yesterday evening after a trail ride to run to town to pick up a few things (we can’t have Moscow Mules without vodka or limes [guess who forgot the limes?]), and grabbed a potty chair at WalMart as well. When I packed for this trip, I tossed in the training undies I bought for Little Man, thinking that we may try it out while we were with Nanny & Papa. Well, I’m on my last sleeve of diapers, and I really don’t want to buy more, so I’m going to try to get this done this week, before I run out of diapers!

We did not start right away this morning, I waited until after breakfast and Little Man had his morning poop. After that diaper change, on with the first pair of undies! Little Man was quite intrigued with what he was wearing at first, laying on the floor, sliding around, figuring out this new feeling. Then he got comfy and was dancing around to some Sesame Street songs and running around the house with his “go-er.”

Little Man was back in Nanny & Papa’s bedroom, when I suddenly heard what sounded like a faucet running, I looked at him, and he was peeing; right through his undies. Oh man, it was like a waterfall! I quickly said “You’re going pee-pee!” grabbed him up, and brought him to the bathroom, sitting him on his potty. “We go pee-pees on the potty!” I smiled as I said it to him. Little Man was not happy, and started yelling “No No No!”, trying to get up off the potty chair. I let him stand up, then pulled down his undies. “Let’s try this again on the potty, kiddo.” as I sat him back down. Well, he was not having any of it and jumped back up, so it was time to wipe him down and clean up the floor where he peed.

I grabbed the second pair of training undies and put them on him, then went back to rinsing out the first pair and doing a second clean on the bedroom floor. As I was walking into the kitchen to check on him, I see him just standing there, looking down, and the pee just running down again. “To the bathroom!” I cried, and swept him up and back in. I smiled and sang a song, he sat on the potty and cried, not letting me pull down his wet undies. Poor Little Man; it’s rough when you don’t know how to go pee-pee in the potty! After this, he got wiped down, undies rinsed, and I let him run around naked for a bit.

His diaper went on right before lunchtime, and we will leave him in one for the rest of today. Now, Nanny, Papa, and Mummy kept asking if Little Man had to go potty, saying “Tell us when you have to go pee-pee or poopies!” He did not let us know about anything, which is quite different from late January through mid-February, when he would come get me right before, or as, he went potty in his diaper. But this is ok. He’s 22 months old, not quite at the 2 years old that most people say to wait until to start potty training. We will try again tomorrow morning, and I think we will just let him hang loose and see how things go. It’s all trial and error, and he will get to it when he’s ready.
