Valleys

“If calamity comes…[we] will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us.” 2 Chronicles 20:9

I’ve been reading “God Hears Her: 365 Devotions for Women by Women” this year. Today’s devotion was on valleys, the various valleys we walk through on our journeys through life, and how God walks with us, helping us discover blessings in the valleys we travel through.

I could not help but see a parallel to what we are currently experiencing with COVID-19. I think it is safe to say that we are in a valley; everyone out there, not just a few of us. Today’s devotion says that “‘being in the valley’ [is] where dread overshadows everything else.” (March 16) With the panic and media over-reporting, I would say we are in a place where dread overshadows everything.

What we have to remember, though, is that God is with us always, even if we cannot see him. He will show us the blessings in the valleys. For me, the biggest blessing I have is that Little Man and I are with my parents near Chicago. We are able to be with them, and help them out while we are on this journey. Nanny & Papa are great helpers with Little Man, and he loves being with them and their dog. I miss Squatch, but I’m so thankful to be where we are as everything is getting crazy in the world. I had been questioning just taking a short trip down here, and for me, this is God’s answer that we need to be on our visit longer. I have been relieved of a lot of the worry I would normally have in this situation, by being here, seeing what my parents have on hand, and being a part of them preparing to be potentially quarantined for a few weeks.

What blessings are you seeing as we walk through this valley?
