Well, it has been a busy few days. I did finish that blanket Thursday night. I cracked down and muscled out the last few rows and the border to get it done. It was mailed out to my cousin Friday morning; Little Man and I stopped by the post office before storytime at the library. I’m really happy with how the blanket turned out. I used my favourite pattern from Red Heart, the Baby Shells Blanket. I have made this blanket so many times, and in different colour variations. This is definitely one of my favourite. I was originally going to have it be cream, yellow, white, yellow, cream, with the yellow on the border, but as it came together, I realized that I did not want to mar the simplicity of the cream and yellow, opting instead to save the white for the border.
I was able to start my next project, a throw for the mother of one of my girlfriends who was recently diagnosed with cancer. I planned on making it in the colour of the ribbon for her type of cancer…then I found out the colour is lime green. I’m sorry, I’m not making a blanket in lime green. I just will not. So, I asked my friend for her mother’s favourite colours and found some yarn that encompasses those colours. This is my first time making a corner-to-corner blanket, and I have to say, I am amazed at how quickly it comes together. Granted, it took my MIL and I a good half hour to figure out how to get the thing started. She has been on to me for several years now to do C2C blankets, but when I asked her to show me how to do it, she could not recall. We had some laughs as we both had our crochet hooks and yarn and were just trying something, ripping it out, and trying something else. We eventually figured it out, and I have to say that I adore how the purples and blues look as the yarn comes out. Below you’ll see the small corner that I got done before Little Man’s bedtime Friday evening.

We are in a heat wave right now. It has been in the 40s since yesterday, and I have taken advantage of it. Yesterday, Squatch, Little Man, and myself went out for a long walk before lunch and Squatch going in to the factory for some OT. Little Man had so much fun checking out the animal tracks we found alongside the road; lots of deer and rabbits in these here parts. He also ate well and went down for a solid nap yesterday. He’s currently been sleeping for an hour and a half. Outside time for the win! Yesterday was fun as well, because he got to go for a ride in Granpa’s Suzuki down to the river and back. The giant grin and “Oh!” when we hit a bump in the snow said it all. He loves it! We took another walk today, and Granma joined us. Today we got to marvel at seeing the gravel driveway starting to peek through the snow as it melts. After, we wandered through the pole barn while Squatch and Granpa talked about replacing the fender to my SUV. Little Man saw the golf cart and El Camino, and of course he had to climb in and “drive” each one. Granpa took the two of us for another quick Suzuki ride down to the river, and Little Man just laughed the entire way. I love the fact that we live out in the country like this, where he can see the animal tracks, hear the snow mobiles going a few miles down the road, walk down the road without worrying about vehicles coming speeding along. Now in a few months when it is nice out and people are boating, this road will pick up as boaters drop their boats in at the river, but we just have to be aware when we are walking around.
We started the day out with Little Man watching me make blueberry muffins; Jiffy Mix for the win! The taste and smell always take me back to Sunday mornings as a kid that we went to Gramma’s house. We would get to sleep in until 8 instead of going to 7:45 mass, and my mother would wake us up with the smell of the muffins in the oven. After breakfast and cleaning up the kitchen, I watched my MIL, and took lots of notes, as she made her homemade banana pudding. Squatch LOVES it, and I wanted to make sure I had the correct recipe for when I get the chance to make it on my own. I’ll add the recipe to the site later this week, be sure to check out the recipe page for it!

And now, it’s back to the daily grind: read my daily devotion and fill out my gratitude journal while Little Man sleeps; laundry day tomorrow; bathroom cleaning Tuesday; some kind of adventure Wednesday because there is no storytime; Friday storytime; and an adventure this Saturday checking out the lambing at a local farm! I cannot wait for Little Man to se the lambs and sheep. His favourite animal in all his farm books is the sheep; he proudly points to each one and goes “Baa!” Keep an eye out for blanket updates, and I’ll be sure to share some pictures from the lambing event next week!
