Seek Feedback

November through January, I am working on Self Awareness on my Emotional Intelligence journey. This month, my strategy is “Seek Feedback.” According to TalentSmart, for this strategy, I need to take a trusted friend to lunch to learn how I handle emotions in different situations, ask for examples, and create a list of my emotional strengths and interpersonal skills.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure how to do this. Living so remotely, I don’t have any friends around; they all live a minimum of 6 hours away. I could do this with my MIL or Squatch, but I want to follow through and do this with a trusted friend. I will be going back home for the holidays, and plan on getting together with some of my friends, so I’m hoping I can get some of this type of information from them when we see each other.

I have always been a fan of constructive feedback, and that is just what this is. I will get the honest truth about myself, and identifying my strengths and weaknesses is one of my favourite things to do. The only way I can truly know myself and improve is to get this honest and open feedback. While I have known my accountabilibuddy for a few years now, we are still in that “getting to know each other” phase. However, on our next call, I do plan on asking her for her feedback based on the time we have known each other.

What are some other ways I could accomplish this strategy? Have you ever done something like this? I would love to hear how you get your honest feedback.
