Lakeside Mornings

Lakeside Mornings

One of my favourite things to do with Little Man is to take a trail ride. I install the car seat in the UTV, strap him in, toss the trash in the back, and off we go.

He absolutely LOVES going on rides, and is all smiles and such a chatterbox when we’re moving. He wants to go, and he wants to go FAST!

Sometimes we will go around the whole lake (15 miles! It takes an hour!), but it’s usually just to the dump with a stop at the little beach to stick our feet in the water and then back home. Yesterday, we decided to go to the big beach. It was still early, so everything was still damp with dew, and we didn’t get a picture on the big blue adirondack chair, but that’s ok. Our piggies went into the water and we walked through the sand for a bit of early morning grounding.

Then it was time to buckle up and head back home. We left the beach and got back on the trail in time to see a little bunny rabbit, just hanging out on the trail. Little Man and I sat there for a few minutes, just watching Little Bunny Foo-Foo watching us, before we started moving again. Then down a hill, up a hill, across a street, and we were in the woods again. It’s been a month, but you can really see where the downed trees and bushes are from the big storm that came through at the end of June; just look for the brown leaves. We paused for a bit on the culvert over the stream going into the big bay on our side of the lake, but we didn’t see any wildlife. As we passed the little beach (also known as the dog beach), we stopped again to say hello to the trucks that live there over the summer.

Then, up one more big hill before we turn off the trail to get back to the house. Little Man loves this part, because we have to turn off the trail and go on the street, and we get to go FAST (about 15-20 mph) the last hundred feet or so to get to the driveway.

I am so glad that we have this nature at our disposal now, and that Little Man loves to be out in it so much. When we get back, we play on the porch for a while; he runs back and forth and tries to figure out why the paddling pool doesn’t have any water in it, and then tries to open the door. It’s time for a quick drink of water and then a nap. These mornings fly by, and I know they are just a moment in time for him, so I soak it all in and enjoy it while I can.
